FAQ

Landscape architecture is a licensed profession focused on large-scale planning, design, and management of the built and natural environment. Landscaping typically refers to smaller-scale, aesthetic enhancements for residential properties and does not require a professional license.

Landscape Architects design outdoor spaces with intention and expertise. Beyond installation, they consider grading, drainage, plant health, and how a landscape will evolve over time. At Harmony Design Group, this holistic approach allows us to create outdoor environments that are both beautiful and enduring.
Harmony’s Design process is set up for clarity between client and design team.  We work hard to communicate where we are in the process for your project and what next steps are! Our design process is intentionally structured to create clarity and confidence from the start. Each project begins with an initial conversation to understand your goals, followed by an on-site consultation to evaluate the property and discuss your vision in detail.
From there, we develop a design proposal outlining the scope of work. Once approved, we complete site analysis, municipal research, and base mapping before presenting a concept design and preliminary budget. Client feedback is incorporated through revisions, and once the final design is approved, a construction proposal is prepared to move seamlessly into the build phase.

Harmony Design Group specializes in residential landscape design and installation projects that range from gardens and estates to complex outdoor living environments. Our work includes hardscapes, patios, pools, water features, fine gardening programs, and sustainable landscape solutions tailored to each property.

Harmony serves all different areas of New Jersey. Many properties Harmony serves include Summit, Short Hills, Westfield, Chatham, Maplewood, South Orange, Madison, Livingston, and various surrounding towns.

Design fees typically start at $3000 and increase based on project scope and complexity.

Yes and OF COURSE! Harmony includes permit filling as part of our build process. We do this all the time and know that permit requirements vary by municipality. We coordinate with licensed surveyors, civil engineers, and municipal officials to manage and submit all required permits for a smooth approval process.

A dedicated project manager from our in-house team supervises every installation, ensuring design interpretation, continuity, quality, and timely completion.

Costs always depend on the project scale relative to home value. We always consider our clients budget and frequently can phase your project to suit your needs!

  • 5% of home value: Basic landscaping, patio, pathway, specimen tree
  • 10% of home value: Adds pergolas, fountains, BBQ islands, larger trees
  • 15%+ of home value: Custom features like pools, outdoor kitchens, vineyards

Yes. We believe you should protect your investment! We provide seasonal maintenance, ongoing support, and fine gardening programs to keep your landscape thriving year-round.

Of course!. Many clients choose phased installation to manage budget or timing. We guide you in selecting materials with samples and renderings to ensure the final design meets your aesthetic and functional goals.
